16 days on the John Muir Trail
Video

S6JSeErhl_A

It has nearly been two years (yes, two years…I know, I know) since I finished the JMT and I just now got around to making a video with all of my footage from the trail. I started an iteration of the video after I finished the hike, but the file became corrupt and I didn’t have the patience to go back in and re-do the entire thing at the time. And I’m glad I didn’t, because I’m way happier with this second version!

Creating this video transported me back to the trail, and again made me so grateful for the experience. For those that may not have read my excessively long story, I started the trail solo, but I met so many great people out there. On the 4th day I met my dear friend Frizzle, and we ended up sticking together for 12 days and finishing together!

It was tough to cram 16 days and 227 miles of backpacking into 10 minutes of video, but somehow I did it.

If you have any questions about hiking John Muir Trail, or questions about any of the spots you see in the video, leave me a comment or drop me a note!

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGGGGG HUGE BUCKET LIST CHECK!! I OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGGGGG HUGE BUCKET LIST CHECK!! I literally think about seeing a mountain lion every day. I look for them constantly. Everytime I leave my driveway I look for them at the spot they killed the deer a couple years ago (when I somehow didn’t see them). Every day. For years. Looking and hoping. I’ve always said that i wanted to see one from somewhere safe, yet close, and I got my wish. The timing was quite perfect in other ways as well. I feel so lucky. 2021 has been redeemed. 🌟 🦁 💫 #mountainlion #coloRADo

I can’t see one of our few herds of “wild” b I can’t see one of our few herds of “wild” bison in this country (are any of them wild if not allowed to roam as they please?) without wishing I could have seen the American Serengeti before we senselessly slaughtered all the creatures that called it home. What I would give to go back in time and see the millions of bison as far as the eye could see. Every time I’m with a precious herd, it’s all I can long for - a world again one day without fences and invisible lines for these herds. Take me back. #bison #coloRADo

Oh hi little Red Crossbill! I love these little gu Oh hi little Red Crossbill! I love these little guys so much. This year they’re a little sparse because we don’t have much of a cone crop on our surrounding trees, but in good years they will take over. A few years ago I noted them feeding their babies at our feeders in April...which is basically the heaviest snows of winter here and I was so confused as to what they were doing with young soooo early! I have since learned that if there is a good cone crop they can breed any time of year...even the dead of winter. Such unique little birds. #redcrossbill #crossbill
